Learning to Fly is a wing-shaped shawl inspired by the shape and patterning of feathers in a bird's wing. Its slightly asymmetrical triangle/crescent shape is knit in one piece, from one corner increasing on one side to form the asymmetrical crescent/triangle shape. The patterns flow gracefully into one another, building the illusion of overlapping feathers.
Suitable for lace, fingering or sportweight yarn.
Beading is optional: I’ve indicated on the charts where beads can be added; my sample has a single bead on each terminal feather point, just to add a little weight to the edge.
Pattern includes both charts and written directions.
Finished size varies with yarn, needle size and your personal gauge. Sample shown, knit in Louet Gems Fingering with US 5 (3.75mm) needles has a blocked size of 60" at the curved neck edge.
